Pneumonia is a bacterial or viral respiratory infection characterized by inflammation of the lungs. Do not be underestimated because the disease can be life-threatening, especially to young children, the elderly and those with chronic health problems.
However, there are some ways to help prevent an attack of pneumonia, among others:
* Frequently wash your hands, especially after using the toilet, changing diapers, preparing or eating food, or remove mucus and debris from the nose.
* Do not smoke.
* Get vaccinated for pneumonia and flu.
* Children should get Hib vaccine.
* In some children younger than 24 months, the drug palivizumab can be prescribed to help prevent pneumonia as a complication of other respiratory problems.
