A brief update on the two suspected H5N1 cases in Balikpapan, Indonesia from earlier this week. 

 

Like the four other suspect cases in Sulawesi, the 15 year-old who has been in isolation for nearly a week at Kusnojoso Djatiwibowo Hospital (RSKD) has tested negative for the bird flu virus.


Another suspect case, that of a 5-year-old girl, remains open as test results are awaited.

 

Despite the negative test results, residents are warned to remain vigilant as the virus spreads among local poultry.

He mentioned, the condition for the public Ha has improved. Moreover, his appetite has also been normal. The clinical sign like the cough, the headache, the fever, as well as flu also has been restored.

 

But not thus with R (5 years). The very young girl who also was treated in RSKD isolation space since last Wednesday (6/10) because the similar case, till yesterday was not yet permitted to come home. Because results of his laboratory inspection were not yet accepted. "The sample swap (throat mucus) and blood has been sent by us to Balitbangkes Department of Health RI. Result of the laboratory test was it was known longest a week in the future," explained Dyah.

 

He continued, the RSKD side was still carrying out observation against R. From the clinical test, was sick that was experienced by R did not head to bird flu. "Nevertheless R continued to be treated in isolation space until we received results of the laboratory test," said Dyah.
