Not a lot here of note except the numbers (43 infections and 19 deaths) have not gone up over the past week despite news reports of scores hospitalized in that nation.

Hopefully this means that none of these `suspect cases' have tested positive for the virus.

CAIRO, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health on Tuesday urged the Egyptian people to exercise caution and follow the sound methods to combat bird flu especially in the winter.

Ministry spokesman, Abdul-Rahman Shahin, said in statement that danger persists as long people continue to keep poultry at home and do not respond to the calls for vaccinating them. In addition, they follow the wrong methods for handling their poultry.

According to the statement most of the 43 people who have been infected by the disease so far are women, 19, and children, 20, since the discovery o the first case in February, 2006.

Shahin urged those who keep poultry at home not to hide news about any death cases and to provide doctors with accurate truthful information.

According to Shahin, early discovery of the disease and giving the infected person the anti-bird flu drug, Tamiflu "in time", mostly help a patient recover. He said that Egypt had 2.5 dose of the drug.(end) rg.msa KUNA 081522 Jan 08NNNN
