For most of last week we saw continual reports out of Bac Kan province of numerous suspected bird flu cases, many of whom were hospitalized.

Media reports stated that two – or possibly three – patients had tested positive for the H5N1 virus.

You’ll find earlier reports, filed last Friday, under Watching Vietnam and A Follow-Up To This Morning’s Vietnam Story.

Today local media reports that 8 patients have been discharged from the hospital after repeatedly testing negative for the virus, and that the remaining patients (number uncertain) are responding to treatment.

The story lists two positive cases.

What follows is a machine translation (hat tip Treyfish on FluTrackers) of an article that appears on Bac Kan Online.

As far as I can tell, we’ve not had any official confirmation from the Ministry of Health, and no report on the WHO website.  So . . . for the time being . . . we must treat these reports as tentative and unofficial.
