The HHS maintains a Youtube web presence, where they upload official health-related videos so that the public can more easily view them. 

 

This is part of the HHS’s ongoing move to using `new’ or `social’ media.   You’ll also find the HHS using Twitter (@FluGov and @AndrewPWilson) to communicate with the public, among other innovations.

Last night the HHS announced a contest where Americans are urged to create a :15  :30  or :60 second PSA on pandemic flu awareness.

2009 Flu Prevention PSA Contest Rules

Eligibility

All US residents and residents of Puerto Rico. Ages 14 and over.

Timing

Contest opens July 9, 2009. 
Deadline for submissions: 11:59pm EDT,  August 17, 2009

Content

Create a 0:15, 0:30 or 0:60 second PSA that will inform and motivate people to take steps that will help prevent the spread of H1N1 flu. Make your video fun, smart, and entertaining.  VPSA must close with visual mention of www.flu.gov.

To Enter

You will need to have a YouTube account. Produced video should be posted to YouTube as a video reply to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ call for contest entries (link).  Once posted, you must complete the online entry form.

Screening

All video entries posted as replies will be moderated by HHS for adherence to video requirements (below).

Winner Selection

HHS will select the top ten videos submitted.  The top ten PSAs will then be presented to the YouTube community to vote on which video is the very best.

Judging Criterion

Message and appropriateness to theme (50%), Creativity, (30%), Entertainment value, (20%)

The Prize
One grand prize of $2,500 cash

Top video(s) will be featured on broadcast TV and on government Web sites and will remain available on YouTube.

Video requirements

  1. The Video must be either 0:15, 0:30 or 0:60 seconds in length; and close with a mention of www.flu.gov (may be visual).
  2. You may enter different versions (0:15, 0:30 and 0:60) of your PSA but you may enter only one video of each length.
  3. The Video may not use music.
  4. The Video cannot have been submitted previously in a promotion or contest of any kind or exhibited or displayed publicly through any means previously.
  5. The Video must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement;
  6. The Video must not contain brand names or trademarks;
  7. The Video must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, slanderous or libelous;
  8. The Video must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; and
  9. The Video must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any state where Video is created.
