Last Wednesday, before the story about swine flu broke, I was sitting talking to my doctor when he sneezed . . . into his sleeve.
I nodded approvingly.
He did it naturally, without thought. It was a reflex, and a good one. Something we should all get in the practice of doing. Particularly with a novel virus circulating.
But a good practice anytime.
In California, where Swine Flu first showed up (was it really only 6 days ago?), kids are being taught how to cough and sneeze properly . . .into their sleeves.
They’ve dubbed it the `Dracula Sneeze’ for obvious reasons.

Students use “Dracula Sneeze” to fend off swine flu
To keep the swine flu from spreading, California public school students are being told to practice what they have dubbed the “Dracula Sneeze.”
California Schools Superintendent Jack O’Connell said that last week teachers reminded students that if they have to sneeze, to put their mouths into the crook of one of their elbows.
“The students started calling that the Dracula Sneeze, and we picked up on that,” O’Connell said on Monday.
The idea has been around for quite awhile but now, perhaps, is the right time for it to take hold. To learn how, watch these two short videos from Youtube.
