Two days after we first heard of the 21-month-old girl infected with the bird flu virus in Egypt, we get this update from the WHO (World Health Organization).
It doesn't add much to what we already knew, other than the confirmation of the diagnosis by our NAMRU (Naval Medical Research Unit) lab.
Avian influenza - situation in Egypt - update

She was initially hospitalized on 10 January and is currently in a stable condition. Infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus was diagnosed by PCR at the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratory and subsequently confirmed by the US Naval Medical Research Unit No. 3 (NAMRU-3) laboratories.
