The indefatigable Dutchy on Flutrackers has a translated report this morning of ducks and geese in Norway, in apparent routine testing, have tested positive for antibodies to a bird flu virus.

The strain of bird flu was not mentioned, and may very well be one of the low pathogenic strains.

Antibodies indicate that the birds have been exposed to the virus at some time in the past, but are not necessarily evidence of current infection.

Additional testing is underway, and we should hear more in the next 24 hours.

Suspicion of Avian influenza on the farm in Trøgstad

Published 04.12.2008 -

National Veterinary Institute has found antibodies to Avian influenza viruses in a sample from a flock of chickens and geese on a farm in Trøgstad in Østfold.

Samples are taken in connection with the monitoring of Avian influenza as the National Veterinary Institute is conducting at the request of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.

- In a regular monitoring sample taken on the farm, it is one of ten blood samples found that we suspect the mild form of Avian influenza, "said distriktssjef for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority in Inner Østfold and Follo, Kirsti Ullsfoss, to Aftenposten.no.

Samples are now under analysis, and clear answers are expected Thursday afternoon.

- The current farm imposed restrictions. They must be cautious with the traffic in and out of the farm, and it must not release the other animals on the farm, "says Ullsfoss to Aftenposten.no.
