The First Monday In September

# 2269

The traditional peak of the Atlantic Tropical storm season is still nearly 2 weeks away and things are heating up considerably in the Atlantic Basin.

This morning, a much diminished Hurricane Gustav is coming ashore in central Louisiana, Tropical Storm Hanna is meandering towards the Eastern Bahamas, and 4 (count' em), 4 other areas are under close scrutiny by the National Hurricane Center.

While it is unlikely that all four of these areas will end up becoming tropical systems, it is almost certain that more will pop up to replace those that fizzle out over the next month or six weeks.

We've been promised an active season, and so far, the predictions sadly appear on target.
