South Korea: Six Farms Now Affected

The number of farms in South Korea recently affected by outbreaks of H5 avian influenza has increased to six today.

 

Five of the farms affected are in close proximity to each other, in Gimje, about 262 km south of Seoul.  The sixth farm is located another 120 km further south, in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province.

S Korean government confirms additional outbreak of bird flu

    SEOUL, April 9 (Xinhua) -- South Korean government said Thursday that they have confirmed additional bird flu outbreaks in six farms in the southwestern provinces.

 

    According to the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, "H5 type" of avian influenza was found at five poultry farms in Gimje of the North Jeolla Province where the first outbreak was reported this year. Gimje is about 262 km south of Seoul.

 

    Meanwhile, the government confirmed another outbreak in Yeongam of South Jeolla Province, which is 384 km south of Seoul.

 

    The number of farms infected by bird flue has increased to 10 this year.
