Only 5 days into April, and it's already shaping up to be a bad month in Indonesia.
Although their count is not officially recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization), based on local confirmations, Indonesia has now tied Vietnam for the largest number of cases of human infection at 93. If the case reported earlier today from Solo is confirmed, they will surpass that.
Rizki, age 14 (gender uncertain), appears to be the patient identified only as `R', that reportedly tested positive earlier today. There is some confusion here, as Rizki had been reported by Liputan 6 TV as being 25 years old, and Xinhua news reported her as a female yesterday.
It is possible that there are two `R' patients in Jakarta, but right now it is impossible to say.
Details, such as names, ages, gender, and cities of origin are important parts of the tracking process undertaken by the Internet newshounds. Unfortunately, the local media often uses inconsistent methods to identify patients, sometimes using names, other times initials.
It is a genuine challenge to try to make sense of these reports, and I couldn't begin to keep up were it not for the tireless efforts of dozens of Internet newshounds who plough through these media reports. A hat tip to each and every one of them.
This from Indonesia's MetroTVOnline.
