Three-year-old girl becomes Egypt's 27th bird flu case
CAIRO, March 25 (KUNA) -- A three-year-old Egyptian girl is being treated for bird flu, the 27th case of the deadly virus in the country, the health ministry announced on Sunday.
The girl, from the southern city of Aswan, was admitted to hospital with bird flu symptoms as a result of her interaction with some birds in her home, ministry spokesman Abdel Rahman Shaheen said in a statement. She is being treated with Tamiflu.
Her condition is stable, according to Shaheen.
The vast majority of bird flu victims in Egypt have been women and children due to their large role in taking care of domestic fowl. Thirteen have died.
Egypt, which is on a major migratory route for birds, is the hardest hit country outside Asia.(end) rg.
