Online Support

Readers of my blog are aware of some nastiness going on at one of the Flu Forums. This continues, and a number of unhappy members have left and formed two new Flu forums. I was, I'm happy to say, asked to be part of the staff of both.

The intent is to provide a safe and sane place for people to discuss pandemic flu related issues. Both are a combination of a Think Tank and Support System for those aware of, and hopefully, preparing for, a possible pandemic.

Although both forums are still in their infancy, they both provide excellent guidence and information, and I highly recommend them.

If you want to know how to can butter, or purify water, or set up a solar charger, or any of a thousand other things pertaining to preparing for a pandemic, you will find the answers there.

If your interests lie in the economics of a pandemic, or you want the lastest news, you can get your fix.

And if you have interest in the science behind pandemic flu, or in medical options for dealing with it, the information is there for you to absorb.

Worried about homeschooling? What about dealing with social isolation? Or getting extra Rx meds? You'll find suggestions on these and many other subjects.

And that only scratches the surface.

All of this is done in a friendly, usually non-technical manner. People chat, exhange ideas, ask questions, get answers, and occassional even tell a bird flu joke or two. All in all, a very friendly group.

While I sitll highly recommend FluWiki, they are embroiled in a system upgrade that has gone on for two weeks. I expect they will have limited `up-time' for the forseeable future. FluWiki is more of a professional's board, and caters to doctors, scientists, and researchers.

The two boards I will recommend today are geared more for the layperson. Although the level of expertise, on everything from food storage, firearms, economic issues, and medicine is remarkable.

So take a moment to visit these sites. Log in. You can create a user name to protect your identity. You'll find me there under the name Fla_Medic. When you log in, you can send me a personal message and identify yourself, and I can let the moderators know who you are.

If a pandemic comes, we will all be in this together. Having an online community now, before it happens, can save you time and expense when making preps. Having an online community during a pandemic, can give you access to knowledgable and friendly people who can help you in a crisis.

All of this is done for free. These are strictly volunteer outfits, with no profit incentive. Stop by, pull up a chair, and chat awhile.

You'll be amazed that you aren't alone. And their are some nice folks who share your concerns. You can learn from them. And more importanly, you can contribute your knowledge, your experience, and your humanity.

See you there.
